High Noon - 1952 - Fred Zinnemann (Starring Gary Cooper and Grace Kelly)

There are some westerns that transcend their genre and should be considered among the best films ever. The Wild Bunch, The Man Who Shot Liberty Valence and certainly High Noon are great films.

I've seen this film about 50 times. It's amazing. If you haven't seen it, just watch it. You'll be blown away.

The Gunfighter - Henry King - 1950 (starring Gregory Peck)

Peck plays a man reputed to be the fastest gun in the west....so that means every young punk looking to establish a reputation wants to kill him....

Amazing western directed by Henry King - a neglected Hollywood director who also directed Peck in 12 O'Clock High (an amazing war film).

Stalag 17 - Billy Wilder - 1953

Cool Billy Wilder film starring William Holden...a comedy about POWs in WWII.

There's a spy among the American POWs and the most odious of the prisoners is used as a scapegoat...

The Killers - 1946 - Robert Siodmak / The Killers - 1964 - Don Siegel

Here are two film versions of the same Hemingway story. So far I've only see the 1964 version and I thought there was some misogyny in it, but, on second thought, I guess people like the Angie Dickinson character exist and that characterization is not necessarily a general reflection on the 'nature' of women.
